Projects
The Core Service (our drop-in appointments are currently suspended due to Covid restrictions).
Anyone who needs advice can call in to our offices in Bargoed, Risca or Blaina. They will be seen quickly and offered a short interview so we can find out what the problem is and help them decide what their best next step is. That may be giving them the information and support they need to sort out the issue themselves, referring them on to another agency or a solicitor, or making an appointment for them to return and discuss their issue in more depth.
Advicelink Cymru – Specialist Debt and Welfare Benefits Advice
We have a team of specialist advisers working across Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent who provide information on Welfare Benefits. They use their specialist knowledge to help make sure that people are receiving the financial support they are entitled to. Advisers also have the skills and expertise to help people set a realistic budget and come to agreements with creditors over repayments. They can advise on bankruptcy and help apply for Debt Relief Orders.
Advicelink Cymru – General Outreach Advice Service
We have a team of expert advisors who can offer information on a range of issues at a number of community venues across the region. We run these services with our partners to bring the advice into the heart of local communities across Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent. Our advisers will listen to the problem and offer advice when they can. If they do not have the expertise to offer advice they will look at what options are available and assess which are the best steps to take.
Confident with Cash
The Supporting People programme helps vulnerable people improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment, enabling them to live independently. Families First supports families with multiple problems. Our Confident with Cash service provides debt advice and helps people gain vital financial skills to help them make good financial decisions in the future. Any Supporting People or Families First agency working in Caerphilly can contact us to arrange a home visit for their service users.
Combating Fuel Poverty
We currently run a number of small projects around tackling the effects of fuel poverty. We have trained a number of volunteers as Digital Money Coaches who can help people new to, or lacking confidence with the internet to learn how to find the best deals and switch suppliers.
